In honor of Mental Health Awareness Month, I wrote this poem in the month of May to shed light on my own story. I hope it inspires you to speak up and know that you are not alone.
My latest video, featuring a fan favorite from the book.
"Let's talk energy and the things that inspire you..."
When I step up in front of many to share my HeART with the world, I feel the most free.
Never put your crown down, Queen. I wrote this one for all my queens, always love yourself and shine! No matter what the world says, you are worthy.
For all my Kings, never lose sight of the power you possess. You are valuable and you are valued.
Dare to DREAM BIG. In the words of my favorite poet, Langston Hughes:
Hold fast to dreams
For if dreams die
Life is a broken-winged bird
That cannot fly
I wrote a piece dedicated to Kanye West earlier this year, but couldn’t have picked a better time to share it with him and the rest of the world. For all my real Yeezy fans, peep the references throughout the piece.
Love and light,
-KĀMA, the Poet.
My mother named me Kamaria, which means “like the moon” in Swahili. I’ve always been inspired by the moon and its phases. This piece was my way of “self-reflecting” on parts of my journey.
“Never be afraid to Soar, for there is true freedom in the Leap.” - KĀMA, the Poet
